Let Me Count The Ways

Still haven't decided on a name for the second album but I'm sure something will come to me soon.

Most importantly is an article I recently read which talked about the importance of describing your music. If I don't get it right, I'll turn people off me before they've even heard me!! Scarey thought. So I've had to come up with a few phrases like: soul with a hint of jazz; jazz inspired soul; latin infused soul with a hint of funk; funky jazz vibes with a latin flavour.

Well they sound pretty contrived and I wish I could find the right words to say: it's just what I do, do you like it or not? But there's nothing music biz about that is there?

If you've listened, maybe you can help. I seem to have used up all my creative juices just writing songs that I like to sing.

Stay tuned...

Album Launch - Step 1

So the first stages of getting my second album launched have already begun.  All songs have been written and so it was off to the recording studio this week to start recording drums for the first few songs and it's all sounding good so far. Thanks to drummer Cristiano Castellito. I'm hoping for a launch later this year but have to make sure everything is in place before I finally announce the date. There will be 14 songs (probably) on the album and one of them you can hear in the YouTube clip attached.  Some of the songs were written a few years ago so it's nice to finally hear them coming to life. The clip above was taken from a recent gig, where we performed a few songs for the very first time. Very exciting but nerve racking too. Can't wait until the next gig. You can find all updates of gigs on

Seth Godin – Building a Musical Tribe

#109: Seth Godin – Building a Musical Tribe

You should check out this link.

Quite inspired by this podcast. Building a following has got to be the hardest thing any band or musician has to do. There are some worthwhile pointers here but hard to follow to the letter because a lot of what is suggested will depend a lot on relying on friends and family.

If you are an orphan and complete loner then this way of making a mark with your music won't work - so beware.

What you will take away from this, though, is that no matter what, the product is the most important aspect of your career as a musician. It has to be polished and make sure it's the best it can be before you start telling people how great you are. I will be spending the next few weeks working on just that.  I've written some new tracks and I'm very proud of them and can't wait until I'm in the studio. Very soon I'll be able to test them out on you.

I Need Fans

I have it on good authority that the only way to get fans for your blog is to ask for them. Would you agree?

Well the title of this blog sounds kind of desperate and, as I've only just started this blog, I don't suppose I'll have that many followers straight away. I only hope though, that I'm doing everything right. Not being a technical person, I'm a bit concerned so perhaps I'll need to keep reading the never ending list of advice about attracting fans to my blog and perhaps something will stick. Who knows.

One thing I can promise if you do start to follow is quite a journey into my ideas for making waves with my music. I'm well on my way to nailing the sound I've been working on and I hope you'll see that when I add some music and possibly video content with my next post.

Take care and see you soon...

When Age Doesn't Count

Starting a career later in life is not a big deal these days. We live longer, we look younger, we think younger than our parents did so it's not surprising that we sometimes never learn what it is we want to do until a little later. I'm also a firm believer that it's never too late to start something new.

Being a female musician, a singer to be more precise, I was always concerned that people would think I was old and past it if they knew I wasn't 17. I really can't pass for that age and I can't make apologies for loving writing and creating music just because I've reached a certain age. I'll have to accept it and so will everyone else. After all, what's the most important thing about creating music. Firstly that you love what you do and that you can get to play it to other people and they grow to love it to.

I've been told that I have fans of all ages from as young as 10 and then upwards of that. So I must be doing something right.

I have to admit it did take a long time before I stopped lying about my age. I would always deduct about 10 years but all that has to stop. I'm in competition with lots of singers half my age but it's those people that come to me for singing lessons. So again - I must be dooing something right.

It feels right, it suits me fine to be who I am - whatever my age. And I'll keep on making music until it's physically impossible and then age really won't matter anymore.
