Rehearsing for the Album Launch Party

With only nine days to go until the Album Launch Party for Beautiful People a band rehearsal was in order.

The backing vocalists couldn't make this rehearsal but I know it's going to be a good one...

Take a sneak preview of what's to come on 27th September:

First Review for 'Beautiful People'

A big thank you to on-line magazine Soul and Jazz and Funk for putting up a review for the upcoming album.

You can read it here: http://www.soulandjazzandfunk.com/reviews.html

They are an independent soul news and reviews website compiled by Charles Waring and Bill Buckley, two of the UK's most experienced and respected Soul music writers.
Both Charles and Bill have written for Blues and Soul magazine for over 10 years and their contributions and album reviews have always been accepted as fair, sound and accurate.
At the same time Charles and Bill have contributed to a number of other magazines - Melody Maker, Sounds, (Black) Echoes, MOJO and Record Collector.
Between them, they have compiled dozens of albums for major and independent Soul labels and written hundreds of sleeve notes. Their work has allowed them to interview countless Soul artists and they remain in regular contact with many of them.
Soul and Jazz and Funk is not allied to any particular Soul 'tribe' or faction!
This is not a classic Soul site, a northern Soul site, a modern Soul site, a rare Soul site, a retro Soul site, a nu-soul site or indeed a site devoted to any sub-shading of Soul music. Soul and Jazz and Funk is about Soul in all it's wonderful hues, and it's this diversity that makes this website so essential for anyone who really cares about the music, emotions and the passions that it can fire.
Whilst hip hop won't be covered, you can expect to see some coverage of the soulful ends of R&B, House and Jazz, where it offers a soulful groove.
Charles and Bill do not have a record label; they're not in the business of making sales; they're not promoting books or pushing gigs for their own end. They're two independent writers, and with Soul and Jazz and Funk they just want to share their life long passion and experience of Soul music...they hope you enjoy the journey as much as they do.

First Play On Mainstream Radio!

Image for 07/06/2013
Linley Hamilton BBC Radio Ulster

Since sending the promo copies out to radio stations, there has been a rumble, quiet but slow, but a rumble all the same, of enthusiasm for it and so far there have been a few plays on internet stations.

On Friday 6th, one of my tracks - Just Listen - got played on Linley Hamilton's contemporary jazz programme on BBC Radio Ulster. He was complementary about the album and the guy knows his music so I felt proud to be on the playlist.

My album is not a jazz album but there are a few tracks you would call 'jazzy' so I guess that's why Linley picked up on it.

You can listen here.

I get played about 3 tracks in so I didn't have to wait too long to here my name being announced. I know, sounds silly when you compare it to big names who get played all the time on main stream stations. But it really is a big deal for me and I'm hoping for more... one day!

Album Art Work Is Complete!

So the tracks have all been mastered and I'm waiting for the copies of the CD to arrive. Can't wait to hold them in my hot little hands. Next I'll be sending out copies to my chosen D.J.s and fingers crossed for some more air play.

A couple of tracks have been featured on one internet radio station. It was a couple of weeks ago on Estuary Radio and I was making toast and coffee when I heard my name mentioned. I was about to have breakfast with a friend and dragged her in to listen (she's heard the tracks before). The poor thing got no coffee until we'd listened to both tracks!

Now to reveal the cover art...

I'm excited. What do you think?

Finish Line Approaches

With only one more song to mix for the album (the ballad) I'm having trouble containing the excitement.

For people who know my journey well you will know that this second album was a long time coming for more reasons than I can list here - and I don't want to bore you anyway.

To get a sneak preview of how three of the songs are shaping up then go to the website www.franclark.co.uk . Just click and have a listen while you potter around and do whatever it is you do when you listen to music.

Please stay tuned for gig announcements and follow my journey towards the album launch - proposed date October 2013!

In The Mix

Pete and  I are in the studio as much as possible as we head for the final mixes of all the songs. With five mixed and just six to complete, can't wait to start the week because to me they are sounding hot! Not my words - the words of one of the backing vocalists who has had a sneak preview.

The second album is almost here!

If you want to have a short burst of three of the songs then head over to my website and have a quick listen.

Please give some feedback if you get time and check at the site for some live dates. Coming very soon...

Bye for now

Back In The Studio

It's Saturday afternoon, I'm gettingover a lousy cold. My eyes are heavy, my thoat hurts and I can't stop coughing. Luckily I'm not the one who has to sing today.

Win arrived for his backing vocal session and just had time to discuss hairstyles with Pete in the studio before we started.

Then it was into the booth for Win

and what an amazing job he did on two of the songs. The Friend You Need and The River Is Wide.

End of the session and engineer Pete and I listen to the rough mix of  the chorus from The Friend You Need
